I am an abstract artist from Maryland, USA. Originally from India, I have been fortunate to live in countries like Japan, the UK, and the USA. My travel stories and the nuances of the culture I experienced have broadened my perspective. This has inspired me to think deeply which is reflected in my artistic expression.
In 2019, I encountered a life-altering challenge with my blood cancer diagnosis. It slowed me down to appreciate life a little more ‘moment-by-moment’. In response, I got inspired to capture these unnoticeable yet profoundly impactful moments by making marks on the canvas. Therefore, each artwork embodies the philosophy of Ichigo Ichie (I like to call it i.i), serving as a testament to the delicate balance between the fragility and beauty life offers.
In September 2019, on the day of my Stem Cell Transplant, I painted my first abstract piece in the hospital to seize the moment and create something meaningful for myself. Despite the challenges, I felt fulfilled and at peace. This surreal experience was liberating, transforming the hospital into an unexpected classroom. Though I like to think of myself as an "Accidental Artist", I can’t help but feel that this was meant to be. All I did was to embrace the moment.
I begin by gently caressing the canvas, allowing myself to 'be one' with it. Then I pour paint and move it around with my fingers. This act unfolds an undulating dance between the canvas and the paint - a moment that feels uniquely significant. As the paint dries, beautiful marks are left behind, layer after layer, that serve as a testament to that unique experience.
Finally, I enrich the artwork by weaving a thought/story, transforming it into something extraordinary. Thus, every artwork that comes to life becomes a tapestry of feelings, memories, and reminders evolving into a narrative waiting to be discovered.
